The plates have a smooth and a matte surface. There are two thicknesses that are common in Kydex for knife sheaths, this is the stronger type. A plate lasts for several knives and can be heated and reshaped almost an infinite number of times.
Kydex is a durable and solid sheath material that also has other uses. Kydex is a thermoplastic that can be molded over and over again. Heat the KYDEX for a couple of minutes at 150-200 degrees and press between foam boards or similar to give a tight shape, can also be shaped manually with gloves. Then cut away what is not needed and sand down the edges. The skates can be glued, enamelled, welded, sewn/weaved and polished to a beautiful and shiny edge if desired!
